Happy New Year! Happy New You...? We know how those new year resolutions go, don't we? So I'll be quick and to the point. If you're going to make any progress this year as far as your health is concerned (physical, emotional or spiritual) it will happen within supportive partnerships. If what you need support with is better self-care so you can sleep better, stress less and enjoy your life more, I may have what you need: a Naturally Stress-Free 6-week series. Class starts on Friday 1/11.
As a coach, my job is to look at what it is you do or don’t do, in the present, that’s causing you to feel anxious. In fact I have observed again and again that every choice we make daily, from the time we choose to go to bed to the thoughts we think or the type of media we feed our minds, either helps us to cultivate a reactive or nonreactive nervous system, stress or ease. So, what daily choices can you make to support a non-reactive nervous system? To answer this question I’ll put on my ayurvedic practitioner’s hat.
It's January 2018! And I don't know you but I am overdue for a good sweat! It's all too easy during those cold winter months (at least here in New York) to stagnate, accumulate and feel dull all around, mind, skin and all.
The remedy? Shake Your Soul®!
Here we are, it's 2018. I wish you much peace, healing where you need it, personal and professional breakthroughs and most of all emotional freedom.
Emotional freedom, the capacity to fully experience all emotions in an uncensored way, is in my experience central to easeful living and feeling alive. It is something I have strived for since an early age. Somehow I always knew this was a central piece to my health and happiness.
Circulation is essential to good health; circulation of blood, breath, life force and yes, emotions.
I just came back from a Shake Your Soul® teacher training at Kripalu, in Lenox, MA. and what can I say.... #bestweekever ! Was it the beautiful souls I danced with? The joy of moving our bodies freely and fluidly? The outstanding music we danced to? The most inspiring teachers? The safe and loving space that allowed for authentic connections to happen effortlessly? The fact we conversed more with our feeling-fueled bodies than ego-fueled words? Yes, yes and yes!
Happy 5th everyone!
If you live in the United States I hope your holiday week-end was light and playful. I've got kids, well young adults, visiting from overseas so I'm officially 19 again. I love it! I love it because in typical scorpio fashion my tendency is to be serious. I've always found immense satisfaction in studying, contemplative practices and digging deep into the esoteric side of life. But it ain't light stuff! Too much introspection and meditation can get a tad heavy let me tell you.
Do you know how to efficiently handle the events in your life? In a way that leaves no toxic residue behind? If not, you must be familiar with some level of stress. Generally the energy of stress is tight. Stress makes us clench. It cuts off blood and energy flow to all body cells. Yet, according to Eastern medicine principles (Chinese or Ayurvedic for example), a pre-requisite for good health is good circulation, precisely! So stress is definitely bad news for your health. But some say stress has a purpose....Let me explain.
Do you go to sleep easily? Sleep through the night? Wake up feeling rested? Sleep is a vital component of life. It directly affects our capacity to engage, enjoy and thrive on a daily basis. If your sleep is light, interrupted or you don't get enough of it you will find it very difficult to stay sharp, vital and creative when awake. Without adequate sleep you may suffer from fatigue, trouble concentrating and mood disturbance.
Stress wreaks havoc on our health. If not addressed, it will affect your body’s ability to regulate inflammation, promoting the development of many diseases such as heart disease, asthma, digestive and skin disorders. From a holistic medicine standpoint we can only eliminate a problem for good if we know where it originates from...
I'm back from my silent retreat and still feeling its calming effects a few weeks later. I loved Costa Rica! Once I got used to the lizards in my bedroom and driving 20 miles an hour on dirt roads, without seeing a soul or sign for miles! It was so refreshingly rugged. Wild nature, fresh organic food, the ocean and of course much silence...a deeply nourishing experience.
